JSon saves the day
Don’t you love when you find a simple solution for a problem that has bothering you for quite a while? I don’t know why I didn’t come up with the solution before but at least I did.
I love JSon’s simplicity.

I will not even try to apologize for forgetting about this place. It’s useless….
Recently I´ve working a lot with flat files. You know, parsing and writing them from/to objects. My first try was very ad hoc since I was using a very simple format. Unfortunately things changed and the need for several types of formats form multiple clients appeared.
Luckily I found a nice java library (named Flatworm) for parsing and writing files using a format defined in a XML file.
The project seems to be abandoned but it’s quite usable. You can read a fast guide to it in its home page.
Flatworm basically let you define a format with many fields (with a fixed length or using a separator ) which will be mapped to a bean fields. This way, if you write a bean to a file each field will be filled using the appropiate get method. It works the same way parsing, calling a set method for every field in the format.
I will not write a tutorial about it since the guide is quite easy to follow.
Greetings.
Amazing how quick time passes. It feels like yesterday when I was at my graduation ceremony.
Things at work have been pretty fine although sometimes work tends to accumulate. I am learning a lot. Developing using hibernate, spring and another few frameworks have proven to be a enjoyable but quite a challenge in an environment like the one MIT has.
Right now it’s 9 pm and I am still in the office. I would like to get out of here right now, but sadly I’m wating for a ‘job’ that has to be processed today. Lucky me.
Things didn’t go as well as i would like in Softtek. The company was good, the people was good. But I just hated the project I was assigned to. I simply could not stand it. It was boring, tedious and I wasn’t going to learn anything useful.
By fortune a good oportunity showed up in another company named MIT. You probably haven’t hear of it. It is a small company that provides finantial services , like credit/debit card payments with those little funny wireless gizmos that they use at restaurants, to many companies in Mexico.
My job there is very different. I will be creating software as well as mantaining some old systems the have (that they wish to remake). The great thing is that they also want me to help them formalize the development process (they have a mess), so I’ll be busy for quite some time.
I’m very exited about this. Of course being in a small company have its drawbacks, but it also give me a few good oportunities like growing with the company or having a voice in many decisions the company must make. They retribution (a.k.a. Bling Bling) is almost identically (for the good).
Please, if anyone (I mean it, anyone) is reading this, please wish me luck.
Well, that’s it. A few days ago I received a job proposal from Softtek and I accepted it.
Next monday will be my first day. The project looks interesting. It is not what I was originally looking for but I still expect a lot from it.
My friend Rodrigo dedicated me a post in his blog as a way of congratulate me. Don’t miss it.
I will try to keep you informed about my experience in the company. So wait for it
ps- BTW, wanna hear something funny? They got a hallway (yes, hallway) named ‘avenue of the effort’ (avenida del esfuerzo)
I have some updates for all my fans (mostly worried family ).
I have been talking with two companies that seem interested on me. One of them is a medium sized software development company and the other is a big transnational from NY.
I have been also contacted recently by a big mexican ‘all purpose’ company. They will hopefully interview me during the next two weeks.
I’ll have to wait at least to January to have a formal proposal, but that is great by me. Right now I am enjoying some vacations with my family (grandma, aunts and cousins) in Guadalajara, I will be back in Mexico City by new year’s eve.
When I get a formal proposal be sure I will come here running and post some updates.
Cheers.
ps- Happy Holidays.
ps²- Who writes these things in Christmas?
It has been a long time and I haven’t update this place. Some important things have happened and I want to write about them.
A week ago I received an answer from Microsoft (I had an interview). Unfortunately, they are going to "give an oportunitty to other candidates". So I’ll have to wait one year to apply again.
I have had some interviews for jobs in Mexico too. Monday I had a phone chat with softtek. The project looks interesenting, but I don’t know if I like the hiring conditions.
There were also 2 other interviews, but I cant specify for which company were them. The 3 options look good, but right now I think I’ll wait a few weeks to make a decision.
Just testing the fckeditor. The plain text editor is too simple for my taste

I have been using and experimenting with Linux for some years now, and I think I would enjoy a job as a Linux sysadmin.
Unfortunately, it seems that there are not as many job offers for sysadmins as there are for developers.
If you know about a company in Mexico (preferably in Mexico City) in need for a good, young (23, just out of college), please let me know
A few weeks ago some Mexicans from Microsoft came from Redmond searching for some talented people. I went to the conference and applied for a position as a Program Manager.
Yesterday I received an email from a recruiter telling me that I passed to the next round. They will interview me by phone in a couple of weeks.
wish me luck.
